Here we have our second set of questions to our partner NEMS, following on from our previous edition!

Q1. How does NEMS support auditability and traceability of emissions data - especially in environments where assurance or investor scrutiny is high?

NEMS is compliant by nature - not just as a company, but in how the products are designed. Every data point has a full audit trail: where it came from, who touched it, and when approvals were made. Auditors and investors can drill all the way back to the emission point, confident in the integrity of the data.

Q2. As Scope 3 emissions become more scrutinised, what advice would you give clients trying to manage and report Scope 3 categories through NEMS?

Don’t try to do everything at once - start with what’s material. Identify the suppliers and categories that have the largest impact. Integrate data from supplier systems where possible, and for the rest, provide adaptable templates to ensure consistency. Document assumptions, track progress, and improve year on year. The key is transparency and traceability from day one - that builds confidence with auditors and investors.

Q3. What makes NEMS software valuable to non-operating or joint venture partners in oil and gas?

For non-operators, reporting often feels like working in the dark - waiting on the operator to send data, often late, in PDFs or spreadsheets. NEMS’s Data Sharing solves this: equity share data flows directly from the operator’s source systems into a report partners can use immediately. No chasing, no reconciling, no uncertainty - just reliable, timely, audit-ready data.

Q4. One of our strengths at sustain:able is scenario modelling and emissions reduction planning. How does NEMS support this kind of forward-looking decision-making?

Forecasting is something we’ve been doing for decades, including supporting operators and contributing to Norway’s revised national budget. NEMS combined with AI Insights identifies specific abatement opportunities and reduction strategies. These insights can then be modelled into scenarios in collaboration with sustain:able consultants and client environmental teams. It’s how we turn historical reporting into actionable strategies for the future.

Q5. How do you see sustain:able and NEMS working together to create even more value for clients going forward?

sustain:able and NEMS complement each other perfectly. sustain:able brings strategy and advisory expertise, while NEMS provides the technology backbone. Together, we help clients not just comply, but understand their data, identify insights, and make actionable decisions. It’s ESG made strategic and operational in one joined-up process.
