Emissions & sustainability associate – 6 month contract position – building to permanent

We launched our company with a goal to bring together our skills and passion for improving the sustainability and environmental impact of the energy and extractives industries.
We are looking to hire someone who is truly passionate about sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of a company, while improving the social and governance practices. This is a fully remote position and will initially be on a 6-month contract basis for 3-4 days a week, with the goal of ongoing and increased work, hopefully building up to a permanent role.
A large part of this role will be focussed on emissions accounting and forecasting for client activities and developments. In addition, you will be working on a range of client projects, research, strategy design, data collection and reporting, and advising on innovative solutions which will make a material difference to the long-term sustainability plans of our clients.
The role
You will be responsible for:

Carrying out emissions accounting and forecasting in line with GHG protocol and ISO14064 standards.

Assisting with management, development and implementation of client’s sustainability strategy, targets, data collection and reporting.

Advising on planning for technically supported ‘towards Net Zero’ plans through emission calculations, forecasting and consideration of impactful emission reduction strategies.

Carrying out materiality assessments for client projects.

Advising on suitable UNSDG’s that clients can follow.

Keeping abreast of latest environmental and social regulation, and guidance from GRI, SASB, IPIECA and other relevant standards.

Input to data collection methods and data reporting for the key frameworks i.e. TCFD / SASB / GRI / ISSB etc.

Writing reports and creating presentations as required.

Monitoring project progress and budgets as required.

Engaging with and responding to clients.
Skills we are looking for:
Ideally you will have experience working in a similar role, have a related qualification or be working towards one. More importantly, you will be excited to learn, research the latest sustainability approaches and be ready to get involved with client projects, providing input and enthusiasm and challenging how companies can work to improve their ESG standards.
We require someone with experience in the following areas:

Experience in a consultancy and / or a small business environment

Passionate about integrating your work with others and collaborating on everything you do.

Emissions calculations, accounting, and forecasting – ISO qualified preferred.

Setting ESG strategies based on robust materiality assessments and consideration of company core business activities.

Background or experience in oil and gas / renewable energy / mining.

Interest and awareness of technologies and approaches related to emissions reductions, engineering experience beneficial.

Understanding of global environmental standards and frameworks – for example the Paris Agreement, Sustainable Development Goals, Science Based Targets Initiative and TCFD.

Leading on the creation and implementation of strategy work.

Experience working across technical and non-technical functions in the private or public sectors.
