An oil and gas operator based in the MENA region required an emissions reduction plan to unlock their funding. Due to the complexities of their multiple ageing assets they did not have clear visibility of the sources of their emissions and needed help compiling the data and creating a baseline before any reduction planning could be carried out.

 

They needed to know what technologies / approaches could be implemented, the approximate costs to do so, and how best to phase this work to derive a robust, technically supported Net Zero strategy.

• Engaged with asset managers and engineers to collect emissions-related data and understand mitigation actions already taken.

• Calculation of emissions at each asset in accordance with the GHG Protocol, plus grouping of emissions for each country and region.

• Multiple scenarios run to reflect potential future developments including increased production, exploration and new ventures activities and decommissioning of older assets.

• Identified 'easy wins' and 'harder challenge' areas for emissions reductions i.e. flare reduction, methane capture and utilisation.

• Summarised applicable emissions reduction technologies with approximate costs, amount of reduction, technology maturity and ease of implementation.

• Mapped scenarios including emissions reduction technologies.

• Calculated 'emissions gap' to get to Net Zero.
